Solutions manual littered with subtle errors just as signs being switched or just plain bad math (ie 96+6 =112) many answers look like they are from previous editions. But as a companion to practicing what you learned in lecture its a decent buy.

This book was the on ramp for me to Gamification

This book was immensely useful to me. I am at the start of a project trying to increase user adoption of a customer service rep application and wondering how gamification could inform my designs. I tend to rate books on the ratio of how smart they make me for the effort expended. This book rated high! Although I have a PhD in Instructional Technology and years of experience in UX, I am new to gamification and was looking for the Cliff Notes version. Mr. Marczewski--for the win!

A professional introduction to gamification - it gets you well on your way to applying it properly. The author is slightly over-confident. It would have taken me a couple of weeks to gather the book's gamification know-how from free sources on the internet, so I appreciate very much the book's price and the good quality of the know-how in the book.

This book is excellent for lay people and professionals in alleviating emotional symptoms to everyday issues. Energy Psychology is the new psychology today! It works and all those in the field of healing should learn it. This is a must have book! Although there are official trainers for thought field therapy (TFT), ACEP has a program for EFT individuals to be certified clinically. There's a diagnostic part of TFT that has been incorporated into the EFT curriculum. This is the main ingredient to customize individual's treatments, not everyone is the same. Awesome job Dr. Caroline Sakai !!! I so love this book....

Life Changing Reading

This remarkable book is about energy psychology for professionals and lay persons alike. It describes what energy psychology is and how to use it. There are fascinating accounts of real life problems we can all relate to with step by step application of this marvelous tapping technique called TFT(Thought Field Therapy) leading to profound healing from problems ranging from phobias , depression and anxiety to some of life's worse traumas. Dr. Sakai's writing is clear and accessible to anyone wanting to learn this technique to feel better and be healthier, and help others do the same. Her examples of those she has treated are very inspiring and encouraging as they demonstrate how healing truly is attainable. One of the great benefits of TFT is that it is self- administered and portable, and can also be used to benefit babies, animals and the impaired elderly. This is a compelling, life changing book about overcoming adversity and I'm eager to read it again!

I had to keep reading

The Burning Bride takes place in modern day India. The central story revolves around an archaic practice known as the dowry.

A dowry is given by the bride's family in the form of money or gifts to the groom as part of the marriage contract. Although the giving and receiving of a dowry has been illegal for decades, it is a deeply ingrained custom in a culture that is millennia old.

Uma marries into a family who doesn't possess the sense of honor most Indians have. They extort money from her parents and when the money is gone, the bride is considered of no more use. That is when the death threats begin.

One element of the story that really impressed me was it's multi-character cast. The author did a wonderful job of creating numerous, yet distinct and believable characters. The author also forces the reader to connect with them, pulling out an array of emotions.

Although there are many characters and subplots, the author manages to keep the reader's attention with the plot's quick pacing and easy to read style. Yet, they never glossed over pertinent information to achieve this effect.

Overall, The Burning Bride is a compelling and gripping novel. I had to keep reading, needing to know what was going to happen to the protagonist. Yet, at the same time, I was caught up in the history, culture and story of the moment. Need I say more?

The Burning Bride is the story of Uma, a young woman, whose life changes when she marries Vijay. Uma’s family have already given Madhu, her mother-in-law, a dowry (the payment that the bride’s family make to the groom’s family for the wedding). But when Uma moves in with Madhu, Vijay and their family, Madhu increases the pressure on Uma and her parents for further dowry payments.

The story, released on International Women’s Day, is told from the point of view of nine different women, including Uma and Madhu. It provides a fascinating insight into the practice of dowry which is, amazingly, regularly still expected despite being made illegal many years ago. Without wanting to give away too many spoilers, the book covers a range of controversial issues including violence towards women. The fact that it is told from the perspectives of both the victim and the perpetrator gives this book its strength. As Uma’s life becomes increasingly difficult, it is interesting to see how the other characters rationalise their behaviour in their own minds. The dynamics of the relationship between Uma and her mother-in-law, Madhu, are particularly compelling.

The Burning Bride is a thought provoking, absorbing read, with a real focus on character development. I really loved Part V, it was the perfect ending. Highly recommended.

Very Compelling read. I was deeply affected by the story -how the dowry system is destroying women's lives and is still widespread in spite of being illegal. Uma's story had me crying in parts. Her dreams of a happy,married life are not fulfilled as the torture starts and continues by the mother in law demanding more and more dowry.The author has skilfully woven all the characters to make an excellent read. One day I started reading in bed at 11p.m. and when I next looked at the clock it was 2 a.m. -I had been so engrossed in the story.
I have now bought the paper copy and am going to re-read it.
Highly recommended. !

I found this book randomly through the author's blog - she posted the first few chapters for free and I just happened upon it one day.

Once I finished the teaser, I was hooked and had to read more. I bought the Kindle version and continued the story. U.S. readers will notice some U.K. formatting (single quotes instead of double), but it's not a distraction from the story. The prose flows well. The dialogue is charming and realistic - I hear the voices of the English characters with their English accents in my head.

I was immersed in the main character's viewpoint, and it was almost painful at times (a good thing!) because it made me remember being in my own young mind years ago, starting out on my own, making mistakes and hasty decisions, not listening to my family and friends.

Denmark comes alive in this novel, and it's now on my list of countries to visit. The Danish language is offered in bite-sized bits and pieces, just enough to catch your interest but not become a distraction. The colorful houses, the shore, the people, I would love to see it all in person.

I don't want to spoil anything, but it was satisfying to see the main character grow, find her direction, and take charge of her life.

A great story. The characters will pop off the page - you will come to know them as real people. Enjoy!

The Cinnamon Snail - a real treat

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The characters were believable and the descriptions of Denmark detailed enough to make me feel the author knows it well. Having last visited as teenager, I found myself yearning to go back! The writing was pacy and at times genuinely funny and I honestly didn't know how the book would end until the very last page.

Extremely satisfying - more please!

A well-crafted, funny, romantic story. I was never quite sure how it was going to turn out until the last page.

Denmark sounds great - I'd love to visit it now.
