About the Author
In the early 1940s, a loving father crafted a small, blue, wooden engine for his son, Christopher. The stories that this father, the Reverend W. Awdry, made up to accompany this wonderful toy were first published in 1945. He continued to create new adventures and characters until 1972 when he retired from writing. Reverend W Awdry died in 1997 at age 85.

I would definitely recommend this to be added to a child's collection

My 3 year old son LOVES Thomas and Friends. He actually loves any type of train. Before bed, he chooses one of these books to read. Sometimes I have to make him choose another because we've read these so much. He's even memorized some of the parts. I would definitely recommend this to be added to a child's collection. I really like the nice little box they are stored in. It helps to teach my son how to put things away when he's done with them and the value of taking care of his things.

Excellent books for a Thomas loving toddler

I purchased this set for my two and a half year old daughter. She loves Thomas and these books get read again and again. The set includes four sturdy board books and a small carrying case. The books are on the smaller side, only about 5.5x4 inches, making them easy for small hands to manipulate. The colors are vibrant and the pages with Thomas's smiling face have attracted he attention of her 9 month old sister as well.

The stories themselves are nothing to be super impressed by, but at her age they are perfect. You can tell the titles are loosely based on other books in the bright and early series like go, dog, go vs go, train, go. I would recommend these books for Thomas fans that are 1-4 years old. I think older kids would be less intrigued by the simple story line and repitition that younger kids crave.

My only complaint is that the Velcro on the box itself is very difficult to get open and lead to early destruction of the box. Overall I would say this set is still an excellent value for the money when you consider that I pail $7.42 for four books and other bright and early board books retail for $4.99.

Cute and afodable little train book set.

When I first opened the package, I was super surprised at how small the box of books were. I was expecting a box at least twice its size based on the pictures on Amazon, and the pictures from other users, so at first I was a little disappointed… BUT NOT MY TODDLER, when he seen the box come out of the package, his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree on Christmas morning… He said Thomas, My Thomas, Thomas for me. He was overly excited to see this. The box contains 4 stories of Thomas. We went in to the reading corner and read the stories, after each story he was say Read one more time. Read one more time. The books are made of sturdy cardboard, definitely durable enough for his little 2 year old hands. These books will become and asset at bedtime for us. I would recommend these books for anyone little train lovers out there. The box is nice so that you can keep them all together.

About the Author
Frank C. Keil is the Charles C. and Dorathea S. Dilley Professor of Psychology and Professor of Linguistics and chair of the Psychology Department at Yale University. Keil received his B.S. in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973, an M.A. in Psychology from Stanford University in 1975, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977. He was a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Cornell University from 1977 to 1998 and has been at Yale since 1998. For over 35 years, he has taught an undergraduate lecture course in developmental psychology as well as advanced seminars at the undergraduate and graduate levels on topics in cognitive development and cognition. Keil has published extensively on topics concerned with many areas in the development of cognition and language. He has written two books on aspects of conceptual development, and he and Robert Wilson have edited the MIT Encyclopedia of the Cognitive Sciences, which was selected as the Outstanding Book in Psychology by the Association of American Publishers. Keil has served as president of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology and has received numerous awards for his scholarship, including the Boyd R. McCandless Award from the American Psychological Association (Developmental Psychology), the Distinguished Scientific Award for an Early Career Contribution to Psychology from the American Psychological Association, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a fellowship at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health, and the Ann L. Brown Award for Excellence in Developmental Research. Keil has served on the Board on Science Education for the National Academy of Sciences, the McDonnell Foundation Advisory Board on Brain and Cognition, and numerous other boards and committees for government agencies and foundations. He also served as Master of Morse College at Yale University from 2001-2012. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. Keil, and his wife Kristi Lockhart, a clinical and developmental psychologist, are parents of three sons who are now in their twenties and thirties.

About the Author
Al Arens is PricewaterhouseCoopers Auditing Professor of Accounting at Michigan State University. His primary teaching and research area is auditing and he teaches undergraduate auditing at least one term annually. Al is a past president of the American Accounting Association and a former member of the AICPA Auditing Standards Board. He practiced public accounting with both a local CPA firm and the predecessor firm to Ernst & Young. He has received many awards including the AAA Auditing Section Outstanding Educator award, the AICPA Outstanding Educator award, the national Beta Alpha Psi Professor of the Year award and many teaching and other awards at Michigan State. Randy Elder is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Syracuse University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate auditing courses, and has received several teaching awards. His research focuses on audit quality and current audit firm practices. He has extensive public accounting experience with a large regional CPA firm, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner and member of the AICPA and Michigan Association of CPAs. Mark S. Beasley is a Professor of Accounting at North Carolina State University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate auditing courses, and has received several teaching awards including membership in NC State's Academy of Outstanding Teachers. His research, which focuses primarily on financial statement fraud, audit quality, and corporate governance, received both the American Accounting Association's Competitive Manuscript Award and the Notable Contributions to the Auditing Literature Award. He has extensive professional audit experience with the predecessor firm to Ernst & Young and has extensive standards-setting experience working with the Auditing Standards Board as a Technical Manager in the Audit and Assurance Division of the AICPA. He served on the ASB's Fraud Standard Task Force responsible for developing SAS 99, and serves on the ASB's Antifraud Programs and Controls Task Force and the Advisory Council overseeing COSO's Enterprise Risk Management Framework project.

Very good textbook

No textbook is really worth 5 stars, in my estimation, because that is reserved for books that actually entertain me! Textbooks seldom do that. However, this auditing text is pretty darn good.

Each chapter is packed with true case studies, which are all interesting. The actual text material is easy to understand and read. There are HOARDS of questions, simulations, etc. in the back of each chapter. And the online materials the come with it are good as well, including some basic videos.

I came into my auditing class with little knowledge of that specific subject. I felt I left it some weeks later with a good understanding (good enough to pass the Auditing portion of my CPA exam on the first go around). So if you're assigned this text for YOUR auditing class, be happy. It's pretty good, and won't put you instantly to sleep...not many texts can say that!!

Will Make you Think Twice about Being an Auditor

This text clearly reflects the difference between accounting and auditing.For those who love accounting as I do, you may find the material quite challenging especially in terms of keeping one's focus. The subject matter is dry and repetitive. The key information boxes are all the same which makes locating specific information difficult. However, from an auditing perspective the information is excellent.The material builds on itself and gives a comprehensive presentation of the entire auditing cycle. The instructor I had did not use the CD which would have made the course much more interesting.
