How many know they are divided into three parts? Dr. Ruckman explains the parts of man, and how they relate to this world and how Satan has prevented most from knowing the three parts and what each part does/is connected to. Before a Christian becomes a Christian, he/she is a body-what one can see-with a soul-our wants, desires, and emotions-and with a dead spirit; dead because it isn't connected to God via Jesus Christ. After becoming a Christian, they are now spirits-connected back to God via the Holy Spirit residing there and due to choosing Jesus Christ as his/her Savior, with a soul and body. But now their conscience is awaken. He teaches what we feed becomes strong; what we neglect becomes weak. He also tells which "part" goes where at death and what happens even after death!

Bad Misrepresentation of repackaged 1st edition

I don't know why this book received so many good reviews. As I began reading, I kept feeling like I had read these passages before. I had a serious sense of Deja Vu. Most of this book is the first half or so of Lathan's first publication of the 3rd book in the series, The Darcys At Year's End. From what I have seen of her first 3 publications (Two Shall Become One: Mr & Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy, Journey's Beyond Pemberley and Darcy's Year's End), they almost directly correlate with her new publications of Mr and Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy, Loving Mr Darcy: Journeys Beyond Pemberley, My Dearest Mr Darcy, and In the Arms of Mr Darcy. Considering her first books consisted of 3 in the series, most people who purchased them before they were renamed and repackaged, would assume the fourth book (In the Arms of Mr Darcy) would be a continuation. It is NOT entirely true. My Dearest Mr Darcy and In the Arms of Mr Darcy are split versions of her original third publication, The Darcy's At Years End. That one should be a fresh, newly written book.

More Than a "Vague Inclination"--Another Sweet Read

I happen to be a real fan of Sharon Lathan's novels and writing style. Honestly, I feel very comfortable with her writing, and trust in the sentence structure to carry me through a beautiful story. It is interesting to me how her personal voice adds that second level to the romantic story, making it even sweeter. The experiences that Darcy and Elizabeth share are fun to witness, and although the birth of the baby seems to take an agonizingly long time to get to, there is a "real time" feeling about the story. There really isn't a complication to be resolved, outside of the birth of the baby, so much of our reading time is spent in high anticipation for the big moment. We get to trip along with the Darcys, viewing their loving relationship like a great voyeur, reveling in their breathless love and happiness. After all, who doesn't want a relationship filled with such depths of love and devotion? Yes, it touched off my romantic side. Sigh. Once again, the novel does have scenes of a sensual nature, but not as graphic as in many romance novels today.

As always, I loved reading Lathan's third novel. The joy in this read is in the ramblings down seaside coasts and forest trails; the joy comes in the love and the pain. In some very simple ways, lovers of Pride and Prejudice have already imagined such sweet and loving scenes as painted for us in the pages of these novels, but here we get to sit back and enjoy their story as it unfolds. I really felt that this novel started to feel more like they were starting to slip into their settled roles, yet still filled with love. I enjoyed watching them relax into their marriage, and continue down the path towards becoming a great family. This was a great third installment, and I can already hardly wait for the fourth!

I tremendously enjoyed reading Sharon Lathan's My Dearest Mr. Darcy, the third volume of her Darcy Saga. The book lovingly continues her portrayal of the happy marriage of Pride and Prejudice's Elizabeth and Darcy. The novel captivated me as much as the first two books in this series. It is an infinite joy to follow the Darcys and their family and friends on their journey through life. I also love the way Sharon Lathan effortlessly, naturally and wonderfully weaves in interesting details (based on extensive research)about daily Regency life into the book.

I tremendously love the author's wonderful, captivating and inviting writing style. She is a fabulous master painter with words and writes with an enormous attention to detail. I am always completely drawn into her novels from the start.

All Sharon Lathan's novels enormously warm my heart to the core. They are beautifully romantic, sensual, passionate, heart-warming, moving, positive and humorous. And so beautifully written. For me the Darcy Saga novels are by far the most beautiful happily-ever-after novels I have ever read. They are exactly like I always imagined the Darcy marriage would be. Mrs. Lathan brilliantly captures the (timeless) essence of a loving relationship between two people. A beautiful portrait of a marriage based on enduring true love and respect. Her novels are very inspiring. They ooze love, friendship, respect and positivity.

For me Sharon Lathan's Darcy Saga novels are the absolute perfect sequels to the original Pride and Prejudice novel. I do hope there are many more to follow in future!

An amazing journey into love everlasting indeed!

Culture 101 for technical professionals

Some books break new ground by introducing fresh concepts, others by applying well proven concepts to fresh contexts and audiences in down-to-earth and creative ways. Managing Cultural Diversity in Technical Professions is of the latter kind-it is Culture 101 for those who have followed the technical curriculum.
Culture, as Laroche points out, tends to be far from the minds of technical experts, engineers and scientific researchers. It does not show up in the data and procedures they work with. It does show up, however, in the disappointment, confusion, and even rancour that too often occur in these circles as those of different ilk attempt to cooperate with each other. These unpleasant aspects of collaboration are usually dismissed as personality deficiency or incompetence on the part of one party or both, usually in gritty language about, "loose cannons," "ruffled feathers," and "passing the buck." (The author even provides a glossary of such terms commonly occurring in North America). Their cost to progress and profit is rarely counted.
Wisely, the author, who has his feet firmly planted in both technical and educational worlds, enables the reader to identify cultural dimensions in the behaviors they commonly produce or experience in others by telling stories that readers can immediately recognize. To these he applies the boilerplate of cultural theory, building upon Geert Hofstede's cultural dimensions and the insights of others who have applied and expanded this seminal work. Power distance, individualism, risk aversion all come to life in the daily encounters that affect productivity, synergy and career advancement.
Understanding a cultural difference or conflict still does not resolve it. Managing Cultural Diversity in Technical Professions does not leave us in theoretical speculation but repeatedly asks and answers the questions, "What can you do?" with very practical advice and tips, and, "What can you gain?" with a clear expectations of how ones management skills, interpersonal competence, and career path can benefit from expanding one's intercultural response repertoire.
The result is both a very readable and well documented text, addressing the common misunderstandings and frictions between what Laroche carefully defines as Americans and New Americans when it comes to management, teamwork, decision-making, feedback, making presentations, humor, and a host of other human interactions that technical people are involved in. Essentially written for the North American workplace in language, style, and presentation, the book can nonetheless find a place in global management curricula and training efforts. Certainly, it belongs in the hands of any intercultural trainer who has been interrupted with the question, "Can you give me a concrete example of that?" when presenting a point of cultural theory to a hard-nosed technical audience.

Getting Multicultural Teams to Work!

We all know how much difference there is when a team functions well - the tricky part is getting it to happen. This new book tackles this topic in the context of Canadian engineering teams, which are almost all composed of people from many cultures. In this insightful book, Dr. Laroche includes lots of material to help get multicultural teams firing on all cylinders.
Written for both managers and technical contributors, the book uses a multicultural lens to look at management styles, teamwork, communication and career management. This new perspective drives home a central theme that cultural differences are key in how our teams work, and not widely recognized in their importance. In these kinds of abstract topics I find concrete examples very helpful, and the author includes numerous anecdotes drawn from his consulting background. These vivid examples show the profound impact of what sometimes seem like small issues, like the Mexican engineer who resigned the day after getting some negative feedback in front of his colleagues.
The book also includes a number of quantitative charts and tables showing how different cultures have quite different expectations of the importance of hierarchy, individualism, and risk tolerance. Having read this book, I now much better understand the experience I had in Canada managing an employee from another culture. What I experienced as a lack of assertiveness was actually the case of an employee expecting highly directive management, and their way of showing respect. Had I understood that well at the time, I would have approached the situation quite differently, even starting at the interview stage. On the flip side, the book would have helped me a lot during my two-year stay in France. In particular, it wasn't until I read this book that I realized that when my French colleagues were jumping in and finishing my sentences, they were demonstrating their agreement by showing they knew how my sentences were going to end!
The book closes with a number of interesting comparisons, like the different emphasis on theory and hands-on work that exist between engineering schools in Canada, the United States, France and Mexico. And to finish off, an entertaining appendix containing explanations of expressions which we take for granted from such diverse areas as baseball ("to be out in left field" - to make no sense at all) and warfare ("loose cannons" - ones which are not fixed down, and fire a different direction each time).
